This internship provides students interested in international development or education as a career, the opportunity to delve into issues related with quality and access to education in developing countries. The education programs you will work with generally support schools and education centres that reach out to underprivileged communities and students from the weakest sections of society. These organisations are generally underfunded, have very poor resources and infrastructure, thus the challenge is to see how within this environment and context a quality education can be provided which is accessible to the weakest sections of the community.
The education programs focus mainly on improving the standard of spoken English and running a range of extracurricular activities that can widen the education for the children beyond the core curriculum that is offered by the schools.
As an Education intern you will be working very closely with our in-country team to develop our current programs and build a strategy to introduce new programs, whilst enhancing the overall education we provide in country.
You will be spending time with our partner projects and schools, as well as members of our internal team, to help develop the curriculums for English and other subjects, complementing the core national syllabus.
Part of your role will be to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of our programs in country. You will have to put together a scale using KPI’s to evaluate areas such as volunteers, teaching styles and curriculum to name a few.
You will also have the exciting and rewarding opportunity to get involved in the delivery of the current programs, carrying out activities such as teaching in a government school, helping in the running of everyday life in a Buddhist temple dependent upon the skills and knowledge you bring to the internship and your assigned destination.
This internship is an exciting opportunity for the right individual as it offers a number of opportunities to develop transferable skills while applying the knowledge gained at university.
Firstly, a great opportunity to learn about international community development and education. Secondly, living and working overseas will offer a platform for personal development, taking you outside your comfort zone, gaining new skills and helping you grow as an individual.
Finally, as a program intern your work will benefit the local communities we support and you will have the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy and your unique handprint on the program!
