Your volunteer project will take place in the archeological capital of the america’s, Cusco, or in a traditional Peruvian village in the Sacred Valley where your help can make a real difference to struggling communities. The volunteering challenge is truly unique and will test your ability to communicate and to achieve goals as part of a team.
The trek challenges your physical fitness at high altitude and the rewards are spectacular as you discover the mysterious ruins of the lost Inca citadel of Machu Picchu in the spectacular Andes Mountains.
Discover the best of the old and new Peru with free time to explore Lima, the City of Kings and modern day capital, and Cusco, the capital of the ancient Incan Empire and home to the spectacular Palace of Inca Roca.
Upon arrival in Cusco you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel to relax and settle in. The next day you will have an orientation and you can explore the exciting mix of old and new civilizations of the archaeological capital of the Americas. You will also start to acclimatize to high altitude as Cusco is over 3,000m above sea level.
As an international volunteer you will have a fantastic opportunity to give back by supporting local schools and community projects around Cusco or the Sacred Valley. Your work could span a wide range of contributions from redecorating and refurbishing to leading sports, drama and arts & crafts activities. A stunning 5 day trek offering breathtaking views – you won’t want to put your camera away! Trek along the Salkantay route, which offers a spectacular alternative to the oversubscribed Inca Trail. Supported by horses and camp crew, you will be taken off the beaten trail and away from the crowds, as you traverse breathtaking mountain passes and remote villages. The trek reaches an altitude of 4,600m so you will need to be physically fit to take on this challenge. On the fifth day you reach the lost city of Machu Picchu itself, with sights that are guaranteed to leave you spellbound.
Return to either the Sacred Valley or Cusco where you will get the chance to recover and take in the experience of the trek. You will then have free time to enjoy your remaining time in Peru. You will have a farewell meal with your new friends and then we will transfer you from your hotel to the airport in good time for your return flight.
