Romania is one of the most beautiful countries in Eastern Europe and a fascinating destination to explore. Romania boasts an intriguing blend of medieval castles, communist history, rustic village culture and sprawling modern cities.
Medical services are severely under-funded in Romania and the concept of an emergency medical service and pre-hospital care has only existed in Romania since 1990. On this HealthCare Challenge in Romania you’ll work in a frenetic medical emergency department and assist key staff immediately by contributing crucial numbers to an understaffed team.
Furthermore, local staff will have the opportunity to practice their English skills, which is paramount for the hospital to be able to obtain the necessary recognition and funding.
On this HealthCare Challenge you can help by being part of a dedicated team of emergency hospital staff, which ranges from helicopter pilots & ambulance drivers to nurses, firemen & physicians. There are opportunities to travel with the ambulances and the on call pre-hospital physician to deal with emergency incidents, as well as with the hospital physicians and nurses. You will also participate in lectures in Targu Mures with medical students who come from around Romania to learn from this emergency medical service.
Below you will find our current dates and availability for the Challenge. If you have any other dates in mind, or you have seen another date advertised then email us on email@example.com and we will be happy to help.
Please note that dates are subject to minor changes and these will be broadcast well in advance to your departure.
The challenge starts at Targu Mueres airport where you will be met by one of our team and transferred to your accommodation. Once you are all settled in you will be invited out for your welcome meal and to meet our Romanian team.
On the second day you will have your orientation and visit the hospital. Here you’ll be briefed on your daily schedule and any other information to get you prepared for the two weeks ahead.
This Romanian Health Care Challenge is a hands-on experience where you will be required to work at the pace of the emergency department. The daily schedule of the group will vary depending on the needs of the department and the groups own interests and abilities. You will be as heavily involved as your skills and commitment dictate. You will have the opportunity to make a major contribution to the team!
Nursing students’ daily activities will range from assisting the triage nurses with admitting patients and taking their vital signs to working alongside the critical medical team with patients who require immediate and life-saving treatment.
Paramedic students’ daily activities will include shadowing and assisting paramedics in the ambulances to ensuring patients safe retrieval by the on-ground hospital staff. You will also be assisting the local medical team in carrying out emergency procedures in the transit as well as at the hospital
Students may also have access to a fantastic new training facility which includes simulation equipment for natural disasters, man-made disasters and training equipment for surgeries and emergencies.
Today you can either begin your journey home or continue your travels!
